Momma Always Said..."Remember to Wear a Helmet"

Would you make your own helium if you could?  Pinterest seems to think you can out of vinegar and baking soda.  A couple of  household items, and voila...you have balloons floating on their own for any sort of special occasion.  Here are a few things I discovered while attempting to be the Pinterest master...

First thing is...it makes a great big mess.  Vinegar and baking soda go everywhere, especially if you only have 2 hands, hence the need of helpers.  It's also a good idea to not put your face directly over the bottle opening. Inhaling the gas is not as fun as you may think.  That smell can stay in your nostrils for quite some time.  Not to mention the taste in your mouth.  Do you remember taking a helium balloon and opening it up to breathe it in just so you could sound like a chipmunk?  Yeah, I wouldn't do that either with this method of blowing up a balloon.  It's not going to work out the way you want it to.  Trust me.

Although I was unsuccessful getting the balloon to float.  Watching the magic of gas can be quite entertaining.
Kids think it's the greatest thing.  Watching two things come together to make a gassy "explosion."
Pinterest talks about using this idea for parties.  If that is your choice remember when the kids start to pop all the balloons, that you just made a bunch of stink bombs.
